How can you make the most of your Strengths? How can you really stand out when you’re applying for job roles or going for promotion? What’s unique about you and what you have to offer the world? Here I explore how you can leverage your Strengths – and have fun doing so.
I recently led a workshop as part of a Universities International leadership programme with a group of academic and professional services senior leaders. The purpose of the workshop was to explore participants’ Strengths Leader profiles. We were discussing the different ways participants could use their unique Strengths to enhance their career and improve their CVs and LinkedIn profiles.
I suggested participants could select 3 of their Realised Strengths and then ask either Chat GPT or other AI tool:
‘If these are my top 3 Strengths (insert 3 Strengths), what is my Leadership Superpower?’
I shared an example using 3 of my own Strengths Writer, Mission, Esteem Builder. I asked Chat GPT:
‘If Writer, Mission, Esteem Builder are my top Strengths, what is my leadership superpower?‘ Chat GPT responded with:
Your Superpower is “Inspiration through Communication.” Chat GPT went on to explain:
‘As a leader with strengths in writing, mission, and esteem building, you have the unique ability to articulate a compelling vision and motivate others through your words. Here’s how each of your strengths contributes to this superpower:
- Writer: You can clearly and persuasively convey ideas, goals, and visions. Your writing skills allow you to communicate complex concepts in an understandable and engaging manner, making your messages resonate with your audience.
- Mission: You are driven by a strong sense of purpose and can align others with a common goal. Your clarity and commitment to the mission inspire others to see the bigger picture and understand the importance of their contributions.
- Esteem Builder: You have a knack for recognizing and fostering the strengths of others, building their confidence and self-esteem. This ability helps you create a positive and empowering environment where individuals feel valued and motivated to perform at their best.
By combining these strengths, you inspire and uplift those around you, driving them towards a shared vision with confidence and clarity. Your communication not only informs but also motivates and empowers, making you a highly effective and inspirational leader.’
I thought that was marvellous and began to think how I could work this into my LinkedIn profile. The participants then had some fun experimenting with their own examples.
What would your Superhero name be?
Then one participant suggested changing the prompt and asking what their Superhero name would be with their top leadership Strengths of Detail, Improver and Adherence?
One academic recommended Perplexity – a free AI tool- which produced more imaginative answers to this question than Chat GPT.
Captain Clarity was my favourite. Perplexity said: ‘This name emphasizes your attention to detail and your ability to provide clear direction, ensuring that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.’
Time to have a go!
Now it’s your turn. What is your superpower and what would your super hero name be? Start by completing a Strengths profile- there is a free version to get you started which is available through the link below.
Strengths background
For those unfamiliar with Strengths profiles, Strengthsprofile.com provides access to different Strengths questionnaires.
There is a FREE Strengths questionnaire as well as Introductory, Expert and Leader profiles. So you can have a play with the free version before deciding whether you’d like to complete one of the others (current prices are from £15.00 for an Introductory profile, Expert at £30.00 and £70.00 for the Leader version). The Introductory profile provides a more comprehensive profile than the free one.
Which AI to use?
You can experiment with the free AI tool of your choice. I asked Perplexity what the differences were between Perplexity, Claude, Chat GPT, and Gemini.
Perplexity responded with:
- Perplexity excels in deep research capabilities and real-time data access. It’s highly valued for academic and detailed research tasks, providing concise answers with linked sources.
- Claude is known for its conversational nature, deeper content, and strong performance in language understanding and reasoning task.
- ChatGPT (GPT-4) is considered versatile and good for general purposes, with a large user base and extensive training dataset.
- Gemini is noted for its ability to handle text, visual, and audio inputs, excelling in tasks like translation, text generation, and summarization.
Once you start to play with AI it’s easy to lose track of time as you disappear down an Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole of curiosity. You’ll find that the better and more detailed the prompts you use the better the answers you get. You can find more detailed information on how to write effective prompts by- you guessed it- asking AI!
